EVE again

So I managed to finish 2/3 of the newbie mission line. I have a goal, get industry to 5 and start to save up to fly one of the big transport or industry ships. I plan to then join a corp and act as a hauler. I always like the idea of a space trucker, and convoy duty in 0.0 would be fun, surrounded by escorts and always on the lookout for pirate player attacks.

EVE though is kind of meh otherwise. The skillbased system is actually kind of poor, because it takes out what in themepark games were the most fun way of meeting new people: looking for party to level up. While they give you the rookie and newbie corp channels, your general day to day newbie stuff doesn’t really force you to group, or even encounter others in any meaningful capacity. The closest I have gotten so far was mining the same asteroid belt with 2 or 3 other ships close by.

I’ve noticed another thing about EVE. I think they could have so much more success if they just streamlined a lot of things and redesigned some of the user experience. It very much feels cobbled together as a new player, and in the rookie channel it’s usually basic questions-one of the most common is mining veldspar for a mission, but being unable to give it because you need to travel to an exact spot to mine the one asteroid there that can.

Travel is a mess, honestly, as is mining. In high sec i just autopilot and afk because my industrial ship takes forever. There are other systems and regions to go too, but local banking really hurts the desire too, because it means you have to go all the way back to get your assets. A long jump set is not an insubstantial amount of time.

Still its fun so far, albeit in a hands off sort of way.

I can give you some advice on this as I have been playing for a few months and your problems sound like my problems.

First off missions are boring until you get past level 1-2 missions. It will take a ton of time to get your standings up unless you train the Social skill. I jumped up to level 2 contacts pretty quicks.

Don’t worry about all the junk you have. Most of it is easily replaced or will never be used. I originally worried about moving it all then got into a bigger ship and realized I didn’t need any of it. I don’t even loot anything smaller than a BS now.

If you need something that is in another station just by shuttle or rig up a fast frigate for those runs. Don’t worry about moving every ship you own. You will probably not need it. I have 14 frigates, 4 cruisers, and 2 battlecruisers spread out all over.

I am currently ratting battleship rats in a nice quiet corner of 0.0 space. Killing a few of those plus the loot and salvage makes me a few million ISK a day. Not bad for my skill level. Plus once you have 100 million or so you feel more comfortable buying fun ships and toys.

It took me 5 different times playing the free trial before I bought the game so I was a little more experienced.

Don’t sweat the small stuff is the best advice though. Just worry about building up a big wallet and training the skills.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try and train social asap. I moved to another section of hi-sec and need to buil up my standings from scratch, and anything that will help.

I’m not too worried. I tend to gripe a bit but as I play EVE I can feel my attitudes changing.
